Case Studies – Oakhill Secondary School
The Oakhill Education Trust had a problem… one of their schools needed to provide additional classroom accommodation quickly and cost effectively. Not only that, the only piece of land available at the Surrey Hills School was inaccessible to all but those on foot!
Enter the clever team at Extraspace… the only portable building manufacturer who provides man-portable, flatpack, modular buildings for just this purpose.
The product that fitted the bill was of course, the Expandakabin. The building was delivered in flatpack ‘kit’ form, and armed with nothing more than some former pupils and a supervisor provided by Extraspace, the building structure was up in six hours!
Very pleased with the results, the school has now asked Extraspace to provide a technology workshop / classroom using the same portable building system.
Expanda flatpack buildings continue to increase their market share in the portable building market, due to their low price tag, fast availability and simple DIY assembly.
Case Studies – Crickhowel School
Two and half year project for school teacher who had no classroom of her own. Great area for sixth formers to relax and be educated. Teacher ecstatic at not only having her new classroom but the standard of the portable building. Difficult installation due to tight bend and professional team needed with rear steer trailers to get the units in. Working closely with school to avoid peak times and children movement. Highly professional job said deputy head teacher. Portable building in cedar cladding due to location in Brecon beacons.
Kate Thomas, Head of Sixth Form stated that Extraspace were to be congratulated on the delivery and installation on the new 6th form building. She stated that she was very pleased with their quality.

Case Studies – Devizes School
The school in Devizes wanted a portable building – that didn’t look like a portable building! The addition of a pitched, tiled roof and real brick cladding ensured the open-plan new classroom blended in perfectly with its surroundings. With installation only taking two weeks the school’s problem was solved almost immediately. A tractor was used to take the portable building onto site since access was across a field.
Case Studies – West Minster Nursery
Head Teacher of West Minster Primary School, Alan Bayford, came to Extraspace for a nursery building. The brief was to have a bright, colourful exterior and interior with hard wearing finishes. We supplied a portable building from our TransPAK range. Arriving flat packed, transport costs were kept to a minimum. The installation took around two weeks to complete and featured an open-plan play area, and office, a store room, an infants’ w.c, a disabled w.c. and a fully-fitted kitchen.
One of the features of the TransPAK system is that you can fit additional modules to the original portable building at any time. This is exactly what happened at West Minster School. Additional offices and store rooms were added when they ran out of room! This is a particularly clever feature, and one that saves a lot of money and time over conventional building.
“We have used the services & products of Extraspace for a number of years in a variety ways and we have been extremely satisfied with every outcome. We needed a fast, effective and inexpensive solution to an accommodation problem, and the resulting building delivered from Extraspace proved to meet all of our targets. Delivered on time, erected efficiently, on budget to a quality that was excellent. Sometime later, the unit proved its predicted flexibility by allowing for a reconfiguration and inexpensive extension, yet again all done with professional support from Extraspace staff. Over time Extraspace has continued to service the extended unit, ensuring that the space maintains its original high specification and ergonomic quality!
Secure storage is always an issue for us and yet again, Extraspace provided a cost effective, efficient solution in the form of their Expandastore units. We have a number of these excellent modules on site providing various solutions to our different storage problems. From large equipment accessibility to stacking multiple small resource storage, Expandastore provides us with the answer to our site management challenges. I can only say that the complete service, from understanding our needs, to sale, delivery, erection to after care, Extraspace has only ever delivered!”
